France – The mayor of Roubaix, a city in northern France, asked architect Albert Baert to build the most beautiful swimming pool in the country. In 1932, the Olympic-sized, Art Deco-style swimming pool was completed, along with public baths, gardens, and a salon. In 1985, the swimming pool closed, and in 2001, the building reopened as the new home of Roubaix’s Musée d’Art et d’Industrie (Museum of Art and Industry), although many still call it La Piscine (The Swimming Pool). The museum boasts more than 21,000 square feet of space dedicated to art, sculptures, and textiles.:
